From the shores of Lake Verbano and the routes connecting Milan to the Alps, to the frontier landscapes of the Middle East and the South Caucasus, ArcheoMeMi’s research investigates how past communities inhabited, organized, and defended their territories through archaeological excavations and field surveys.
In northern Italy, the evolution of settlement patterns between the Basso Verbano, the Olona Valley, and Castelseprio reveals an environment shaped by waterways, commercial hubs, and systems of strategic control. In eastern contexts, traces of settlements, infrastructures, and fortifications instead recount daily life and political pressures along the frontiers of antiquity.
Despite the distance between them, these landscapes share common themes: the role of passageways, the relationship between communities and their territory, and the impact of defensive structures on the transformation of space over the centuries.
Excavations at the Lombard necropolis in collaboration with the Civic Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of Arsago Seprio.
