Excavations at Arsago Seprio – via Europa 6
The archaeological excavation carried out in September 2025 at Via Europa 6 in Arsago Seprio was directed by the University of Milan – ArcheoMeMi, in close collaboration with the Civic Archaeological and Paleontological Museum of Arsago Seprio. The aim of the investigation was to verify certain anomalies detected by geophysical surveys conducted in the 1990s and to clarify the extent of the Lombard necropolis previously identified during the 1972, 1983, and 1994 excavations.
The campaign focused on three sectors located around the area of the known burials, but it did not yield any new tombs. This result made it possible to define the boundaries of the necropolis with greater precision, confirming that the line of burials documented in 1994 represents one of the edges of the funerary area. The investigations also allowed for the reconstruction of the ancient morphology of the terrain, characterized by a slope descending toward Via Porraneo—an important element for understanding the original layout of the Early Medieval landscape.
The project is still ongoing and includes the enhancement and comprehensive reinterpretation of the dataset, integrating both the results produced by the University’s research and the information from earlier investigations carried out at the site. Collaboration with the Civic Museum will make it possible to translate these findings into public outreach and communication initiatives, contributing to the knowledge and preservation of the archaeological heritage of Arsago Seprio.
