Who we are

ArcheoMeMi (Christian, Late Antique and Medieval Archaeology ) is a recent initiative, born from the need to fill an important gap within the archaeological disciplines at the University of Milan. Founded in 2023, ArcheoMeMi has grown rapidly and today brings together numerous undergraduate and graduate students, trainees from the School of Specialization in Archaeological Heritage, as well as research fellows and collaborators.

Although primarily dedicated to the Late Antique and Medieval world, the group also focuses its research on the formative and transformative processes of societies over the long term, from the early Imperial period to the Early Middle Ages. ArcheoMeMi adopts an interdisciplinary approach that integrates traditional methodologies with cutting‑edge and innovative technologies, supported by a consolidated network of collaborations with national and international institutions. The group is active in northern Italy, where it coordinates projects funded by the University of Milan, the Ministry of Universities and Research (MUR), and the 4EU+ Alliance. It also participates in research initiatives in the Middle East and the South Caucasus.

ArcheoMeMi is also strongly committed to public engagement activities, involving both the academic community and external partners. Public‑facing initiatives include seminars open to non‑specialists, traveling photographic exhibitions, and educational workshops in schools of various levels.

Anyone interested may join ArcheoMeMi by taking part in the group’s research and outreach activities or by requesting to undertake a thesis with the faculty supervisor, Prof. Emanuele E. Intagliata.
